Alexis Johnson began duties last week.

The Houston Police Department now has two female officers on its roster.

The most recent addition is Alexis Johnson, who began duties last week. Johnson, 24, joins the HPD with some experience in law enforcement, as she spent the past two years as an officer in Mountain View, where she became a corporal and received the 2025 Missouri Small Department Officer of the Year award from the state Department of Public Safety.

She is a certified drug recognition expert and has a passion for traffic enforcement, especially DWI cases.

“Too many people die on our roadways due to impaired drivers,” Johnson said. “I’ve seen too many wrecks and almost been hit too many times. It’s not something I’m interested in losing a family member to.”

Johnon graduated from high school in Edna, Texas, and took online courses in criminal justice. She attended the Law Enforcement Training Institute in Columbia.

Johnson’s husband, Aaron Johnson, is a reserve officer in Shannon County. The couple lives in Pomona and has two daughters, Penelope (6) and Melody (3).

Johnson said “everything” about the job draws her to being a law officer.

“Keeping people safe and our roadways safe,” she said, “and the adrenaline rushes.”

Riding with officers as a cadet in Mountain View gave Johnson a firsthand look at being a law officer, and she knew then it was the job she wanted to perform.

“Alexis is a hard-working officer with a love for traffic enforcement,” said HPD Chief Brad Evans. “We are excited to have her join our department. Officer Johnson is getting acquainted with our department and procedures, and we believe she will bring a lot of energy to the department.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will have on our community.”

“I’ve only heard good things about this department,” Johnson said. “I like my coworkers, and the community seems kind. Even the people we place under arrest seem respectful, for the most part.”

The HPD roster now has 11 officers again, following the departure of Adam Stevenson in June.
