The Houston volleyball team is streaking in the right direction headed to the postseason. Wednesday morning the Lady Tigers found out who they’ll face when it arrives.
HHS is the fourth seed in the seven-team Class 3 District 11 Tournament that begins Oct. 21 at Mountain Grove High School. The Lady Tigers will face No. 5 Mountain Grove.
Houston (14-6) has been red-hot since losing a Sept. 25 matchup 3-0 at Mountain Grove. The Lady Tigers have won 8 of their 10 matches since the defeat, including a runner-up finish in last weekend’s home tournament.
Hollister is the district’s top seed with a 24-4-1 record to receive a first-round bye. The winner of the Houston-Mountain Grove game would be the semifinal opponent on Oct. 23.
Other first-round matchups include No. 2 Liberty facing No. 7 Ava and No. 3 Willow Springs against No. 6 Forsyth.
In its regular-season matchup against the Lady Panthers, HHS struggled to put points away. The team had 30 free balls in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 defeat.
“We never really came out to hit the ball,” Lady Tigers coach Julia Sloan said. “We can’t win games sending that many free balls.”
That was before the winning streak.
