A Kearney woman accused of stabbing a man in Texas County in 2024 has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree assault and will serve seven years in prison, court records show.
Heather Michelle Shelton, 37, will receive credit for time served in the Texas County Jail since March 2024 toward the seven-year sentence.
Charges of armed criminal action and tampering with evidence were dismissed as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to online court records.
Texas County deputies responded in March 2024 to Texas County Memorial Hospital and spoke to a witness, who stated the victim had been stabbed with a knife by a female at a residence on Route 17 in the Houston area. After gathering more information, deputies responded to the residence on Route 17 and arrested Shelton. A knife believed to be used in the assault was also located at the residence.
