The Cabool Art Club enjoyed an unusual opportunity to share with a fine quilter the much-loved tradition of quilt making at the Nov. 11 meeting held at the Cabool Methodist Church, hosted by Carol Pettijohn and Kathy Anderson.

Quilter Sandy Iverson displayed a variety of lovely quilts that showed her talent in color selection, fabric choice, pattern combinations and sewing skills. Members were privileged to view such a large and creative collection of types of quilts and learn the tools and techniques of their construction.

Additionally, members were fascinated to learn that quilting dates back to Egyptian times. It was also of historical significance during the Civil War and the Underground Railroad. Her enthusiasm and helpful information brought a great deal of enjoyment and a renewed appreciation for this universally loved tradition. Her fine presentation was capped by her gift of two charming miniature quilts to club members celebrating birthdays.

President Shelley Travis called the business meeting to order. Roll call was each member sharing memories about their first sewing project. Amazingly, some members still had these treasured items and brought them to show the group.

Committee reports were given. The primary topic of business was the Christmas Home Tour Scholarship Fundraiser scheduled for Dec. 13. Tickets are $10 and will be available for sale from Cabool Art Club members, Cabool Florist at Missy Faye’s and Cabool Town & Country from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 29 and Dec. 6, and Cranberry Merchant from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 during Cabool’s “Christmas on Main” festivities.

Cabool Art Club members look forward to welcoming the community to the Christmas Home Tour Scholarship Fundraiser event Dec. 13.
