A new city attorney and prosecutor was hired Monday after its relationship with the previous attorney ended last week.
Council members unanimously approved Mayor Sam Kelley’s appointment of Larry Tyrrell to the position with an annual salary of $50,400. Ward II Alderwoman Ann Tottingham was absent from the meeting.
Tyrrell is a Texas County native who was involved in education, agriculture and real estate before earning a law degree.
During a Nov. 17 meeting, the council voted in favor of Sean Smith tendering his resignation due to several disagreements. The mayor split a 3-3 vote.
Smith was hired in May 2023 after Brad Eidson became an associate circuit judge.
