A dangerous stretch of U.S. 63 in Texas County will receive additional enforcement efforts after a study showed fatal or disabling injury crashes exceed those of similar highways in the state, officials said this week.
The highway is between Houston and Cabool on U.S. 63 and runs from Cloverdale Road near Gardner Bridge over the Big Piney River to Orchard Road just north of Cabool.
The zone designation — made by the Missouri Department of Transportation and Missouri State Highway Patrol — begins Nov. 24.
The Missouri Department of Transportation uses Travel Safety Zones to improve safety of a clearly defined road segment. In such designated areas, fines are doubled for moving violations, and MoDOT increases efforts to raise public awareness to reduce the number and severity of crashes.
The zones are established by Missouri statute.
