The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • On Oct. 16, a deputy responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a Highway YY residence at Cabool.

The officer made contact with a 51-year-old woman there who said she and a 53-year-old man had been in an argument and that he was drunk and had verbally harassed her.

The woman told the officer she had left the confrontation and walked into a nearby field, but the man had gotten in her face and continued to yell at her. She said she slapped the man out of fear, and he separated from her.

The woman said the man then got into a vehicle and drove at her, stopping a couple of feet away from hitting her. She said the man then picked up a large rock and approached her with it, stating he was going to “bash her head in.”

The woman said she tried to kick the man, but missed, and he jumped on her and held the rock over her as if he was going to hit her with it. She told the officer her juvenile son could then be heard yelling, and the man returned to his vehicle and left.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper located the man inside his vehicle at a nearby location, and he was placed into custody for driving while intoxicated.

During questioning at the jail, the man denied many of the woman’s claims.

A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against him.

  • On Oct. 25, a deputy responded to a report of hay bales burning in the area of Beeler Road at Cabool.

Upon arrival, the officer observed a large field full of burning hay bales, along with trees in the surrounding area.

The 42-year-old man who owns the property was on the scene and told the deputy he didn’t know who might have set the bales on fire. About 500 bales were burning, with a total value of $32,500.

There are no suspects.
