Without Congress renewing Affordable Care Act subsidies, cost for ACA coverage will skyrocket on Jan. 1, causing many people to become uninsured.

The horrors we were told about the Affordable Care Act never occurred. Over three in four marketplace enrollees live in states Trump won.

Over 24 million people received health care through the ACA this year.

Large portions of our agriculture and farm families, service industry workers, home health aides, nursing assistants, people starting small businesses, chiropractors, real estate brokers, dentists, musicians, cooks, cashiers, beauticians and more get coverage this way.

In my Missouri eighth congressional district more than 52,000 of my neighbors get health care through the ACA. (Missouri seventh – 62,000+ and Missouri fourth – 50,000+)

Nationally, more than 24% of farmers, ranchers and ag managers are covered by the ACA.

That loss of ACA subsidies will hurt hospitals and raise costs of care for all the rest of us.

That there cannot be a great nation where many cannot access health care, emergency room visits drive up costs and preventive medicine keeps costs down.

Medical debt is a major driver of bankruptcy, which hurts our communities and our children.

That Democrats do not want to pass a bill funding the government that does not renew funding to keep health care available for so many of us.

Considering all that, it seems that now is a great time for Republican legislators to stand up and keep their people covered while also ending a government shutdown. I believe the people these legislators represent would really appreciate that.
