Mark Twain National Forest is planning prescribed burns this month, pending required approvals.

In Texas County, one is planned for Hanks Field, a 40-acre site about five miles east of Roby.

It is estimated that work at various sites will continue through December as weather conditions allow.

The prescribed fires are done to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires, the Mark Twain National Forest said.
