Fatal crash

An accident Christmas Day claimed the life of a Birch Tree woman, Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Tpr. Sarah Swink said a northbound 2005 Pontiac Sun driven by a 70-year-old female entered U.S. 60 about one mile east of Mountain View and traveled into the eastbound path of a 2005 Ford F-350 that was operated by a 57-year-old man from Couch.

The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was declared deceased by the Shannon County coroner. Next of kin was notified.

A passenger in the truck — a 56-year-old woman from Couch — had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Mountain View. She was wearing a seat belt.

The car was totaled. The pickup had extensive damage. The patrol released no names.

It was the 36th fatality this year in Troop G compared to 31 at the same time in 2024.
