The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • At about 8:50 p.m. Nov. 25, a deputy was dispatched to a location on Highway Z regarding a report of people shooting deer from the roadway.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a Missouri Department of Conservation agent who was already on scene. During the process, the deputy and agent recovered a Ruger 77/44 rifle that had been used in the shootings, and it was seized because the man in possession of it was a previously convicted felon.

The agent asked the deputy to take the gun and place it into evidence.

  • On Nov. 15, a deputy responded to a report of missing cattle at a Highway CC property at Licking.

A 69-year-old man there told the officer eight 4-year-old red Angus heifers were missing, with a total value of $36,000.

The officer and the man searched for signs that the cattle had been stolen, but no evidence was found that a truck and trailer had been driven onto the property and limbs on the ground in the area appeared undisturbed.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was contacted, and the deputy was advised that no report had been received about cattle at large in the area.

The deputy determined the report was unfounded.

  • At about 4:45 p.m. Nov. 18, a deputy responded to a Grandview Road residence near Houston regarding a report of a man making threats to a woman.

The officer made contact with a 48-year-old woman there who said her 29-year-old son had threatened to kill her.

The man was located in a locked bedroom and said he was coming down from drug use, but he refused to answer questions about the incident. He was removed from the room and taken to jail.

  • On Oct. 28, a deputy responded to a report of theft at a Medlock Drive residence at Raymondville.

A 69-year-old man there told the officer that four guns with a total value of $1,800 and a Ford generator of unreported value had been swiped from the residence, where his son lives. The man named his son’s girlfriend as a suspect.
