A Houston civic organization that works toward the betterment of the community has launched its annual membership drive.

Downtown Houston Inc., which undertook projects over the years ranging from the Melba Performing Arts Center to the Lone Star Plaza and the Lone Star Annex, holds the drive annually to sustain its operations and provide funds for matching grants. Earlier this year, the organization announced it had commissioned a Springfield artist to craft a sculpture of Emmett Kelly Sr. that will be placed at the Lone Star Plaza. Fundraising began late this year.

In a letter to its membership, it notes several projects completed this year:

  • A new website, marketing material and community booklet on Houston. (downtownhoustonmo.org)
  • Upgrading the irrigation system at Lone Star Plaza.
  • Work on the sculpture project, including applying for Missouri Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits.
  • Partnering with the City of Houston to create a new focus on bettering downtown Houston in 2026.
