Filings open Tuesday (Dec. 9) for several positions contested in the area for the upcoming April municipal election.

At the city, school and hospital, here are the open positions:

City of Houston

Three, two-year terms on the city council. The positions are held by Fred Stottlemyre, Ward I; Sheila Walker, Ward II; and Don Romines, Ward III.

Stottlemyre was appointed to the position last year to fulfill Mayor Sam Kelley’s term.

A one-year term on the city council. The position is held by Chelsye Scantlin, Ward I.

Scantlin was appointed this year to fulfill Adam Vandiver’s term. Vandiver moved outside of city limits.

Houston R-1 School District

Three, three-year terms on the board of education. The positions are held by Darren Ice, Dustin Hartman and Tressie Neugebauer.

Texas County Memorial Hospital

One, five-year term on the board of trustees. The position is held by Joleen Durham.

Important dates

  • The last day for candidate filing is Dec. 30.
  • The last day to register to vote is March 11.
  • The election is April 7.
