Three members of the Houston High School band were among the 78 participants in this year’s ‘TubaChristmas’ held Dec. 19 on the Drury University campus.
The Springfield event – one of 330 held this year across the United States – included musicians from ages 13 to 72. Three of those were teenagers from Houston: Josh Garnica, Victoria Fulbright and Landrum McNiell.
This was the 52nd year for the event for tuba and euphonium players. It was was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day in 1902.
