Members of the Texas County Commission met Jan. 7 and 8 to conduct business.

Meeting Items

  • An employee handbook update and the 2026 budget were discussed.
  • A road maintenance contract for Morris Township was reviewed and signed.
  • Taylor Clinton, assessor, spoke to the commission about applications for the senior tax credit.
  • Commissioners reviewed and acknowledged the resignation of Aaron Sigman as a full-time deputy sheriff effective Dec. 31, 2025.
  • Sheriff Scott Lindsey informed commissioners that Doug Walls started the sheriff’s academy on Jan. 12. He also informed the commission of a vehicle accident involving a deer.
  • The commission met with Tammy Cantrell, collector/treasurer, about her office.
  • Travis Maddox, Texas County Emergency Response Team (TCERT), met with the commission and presented a report for 2025.
  • Kenny Trout and Lonnie Buckner discussed Shafer Road with the commission.
  • Ivan Schraeder, attorney, spoke regarding the salary commission and nepotism.
  • Discussion was held with a Golden Hills resident about making their roads public.
