A cooperation agreement between a rural water district in the county and a fire department will create a win-win situation for both, officials said.
The Roby Fire Department will access water when needed from an old Success well that is no longer operational in its system.
“The majority of the water we used on structure fires came from the clean-outs. They look like little fire hydrants, but that is not their intended purpose. They are used to flush the water system. When we would hook up to them to fill our trucks, it would put stress on the system depending on the area we hook up at. That then would cause cloudy water due to dropping the pressure,” according to the department.
Under the new system, the department will use the Success well, as well as a second point at the Roby Baptist Church, where a 6-inch line is in place.
“We want to thank the water department for working with us on this matter. I know there were a few times when water went cloudy and upset some in the community. It went cloudy due to us fighting larger fires that took several trucks full to put out. We hope this will solve that issue during future fires,” said Deputy Chief Trent Packer.
