The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • On Dec. 24, a deputy responded to Texas County Memorial Hospital regarding a report of a dog bite.

The officer made contact with a 31-year-old woman there who said she was a FedEx driver making a delivery to a King Road residence at Mountain Grove when a dog bit her on the right wrist. She said the homeowners weren’t home at the time, but a juvenile was and assisted with controlling the dog.

The deputy contacted the 46-year-old woman who owns the house and the dog, and she told the officer that dogs at her home are contained by an invisible perimeter fence and the FedEx driver had walked within its boundary. She also said she has a drop box for packages at the beginning of her driveway.

The officer advised the woman to quarantine the dog and contact the Texas County Health Department for further instructions regarding the animal. She said it was the first incident of a bite involving the dog.

  • On Jan. 2, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of attempted theft of a motor vehicle at a Highway W residence at Summersville.

A 79-year-old woman there told the officer that at about 7 p.m. she saw her 2006 Chevrolet pickup in her driveway with the engine running and the driver’s door open.

She said it was about 50 feet from where she had left it, and she figured the suspect had been startled and fled when she turned the outside light on. A motion sensor on the property had been knocked down from a tree, and the woman said she believed that was because the suspect knew it was there.

Investigation is ongoing.

  • On Jan. 2, a 48-year-old man reported that nine guns and four bows had been stolen from his Smith Road residence at Hartshorn.

The man told a deputy the items were swiped in June of 2024, and he had contacted law enforcement at the time, but he didn’t complete a written statement because he didn’t have serial numbers. He said he was able to obtain the serial numbers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, so he was filing a report.

There are no suspects.
