Book clubs offer significant benefits including enhanced social connection, improved mental stimulation and increased reading motivation.
They provide a structured way to meet new people and build community. Members are introduced to new genres, authors and perspectives they might not have chosen on their own. I attended our Licking library book club this past Saturday and enjoyed meeting new patrons. They all expressed their love of reading and shared books they had recently read.
We all scrambled to write down new book options to read, especially when the book came highly recommended. My goal is for each branch to have an adult book club. We are currently signing people up at all branches. Please contact the library if you have any questions or are interested in joining a group.
All Texas County Library locations have new copy/printer machines, which allows us to continue to provide copy, printing and scanning services to our patrons. There is a nominal fee for these services.
For the whole month of February, we will again do “Bind Date with a Book.” This is for all ages. Check out a wrapped book and reveal the title when you get home. We get great feedback on this every year with patrons saying they like reading a book they might not have picked otherwise.
The next adult book club will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at our Summersville branch. The Licking branch is hosting one at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21. If you are interested in being a part of any of our branch’s book clubs, contact Louise at 417-967-2258.
Thanks to a kind donation, we have added a puzzle activity for all ages. Come relax and unwind with our community jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle board is set up and ready for your contribution. Work on it as long or little as you like.
One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-976-2258.
Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends Group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
Story times for children are at all Texas County branches. Times and days are listed on our website or call your local branch for details.
