January is over and in the blink of an eye it is February.

February is commonly known as the shortest month of the year as well as being known as the month of love and romance. Come check out the library’s love and romance books along with new large print arrivals.

Saturday, Feb. 7, is National “Take Your Child to the Library Day.” All Texas County branches have plenty of books to check out and while you’re there, your kiddos will get a coloring sheet, sticker and bookmark in honor of the day.

For the whole month of February, we will again do “Bind Date with a Book.” This is for all ages. Check out a wrapped book and reveal the title when you get home. We get great feedback on this every year with patrons saying they like reading a book they might not have picked otherwise.

The building where I started my career with this fine library system is now for sale. While the new building is wonderful, the old building served Texas County well and can now serve someone else. For information on purchasing the old library located at 117 W. Walnut St., contact our realtor VIP, Jan Watson in Houston at 417-257-4532.

The next adult book club is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at our Licking and Summersville branches. If you are interested in being a part of a book club in Houston, contact Louise at 417-967-2258.

With the possibility of our old library building being sold, we will not have it open for book sales in the month of February. We will reopen in March, so stay tuned for that information.

Thanks to a kind donation, we have added a puzzle activity for all ages. Come relax and unwind with our community jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle board is set up and ready for your contribution. Work on it as long or little as you like.

In Cabool, our copier/printer has broken down. Thank you for your patience while we wait for the new machine to arrive in the first part of February. We apologize for the inconvenience but feel free to use one of our other branches in Houston, Licking or Summersville for your printer/copy needs.

One of the features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-976-2258.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.

Story times for children are at all Texas County branches. Times and days are listed on our website or call your local branch for details.
