The Plato School District canceled its homecoming dance Friday following a threat on social media.
The district announced the cancelation Friday evening on its Facebook page “due to a safety concern.” Late Tuesday morning, the district said the dance had been canceled after “a specific threat directed at our school dance.”
School officials said there is an active investigation being led by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.
“On Friday evening, we were alerted to a specific threat directed at our school dance,” the district said via Facebook. “To prioritize the safety of our community, the administration chose to cancel the event. We have fully briefed the Texas County Sheriff’s Department, and they are leading an active investigation. Our focus remains on the ongoing security of our students and staff. A possible make up date for the homecoming dance is being considered.”
