March 5th is Happy Beddian Birthday to me!

A Beddian birthday is a rare, once-time-in-a-lifetime milestone where a person’s age matches the last two digits of their birth year. Named after New York firefighter Bobby Beddia, it occurs only in even-numbered years (e.g., someone born in 1963 turns 63 in 2026) That’s me!  I had never heard of this before and am having a little chuckle that I get to celebrate my Beddian Birthday.

My mother recently asked me to get her the book “Tiny Little Earthquakes” by Hayes Blankman. She says it is wonderful and gives it a 5-star review. It is the story of Elliot Hase, a sharp, observant nine-year-old girl growing up on a horse farm in 1980s North Carolina, where the adults are far less stable than the barn animals. Copies are available for checkout in the library!

Reminders: Daylight Savings is Sunday, March 8 and we spring forward an hour, and St. Patrick’s Day is March 17, so you might want to wear green.

A sign-up sheet has been started for a Houston library location book club. Please sign up if you are interested. It will be once a month, TBD, and we should be starting this month.

The next adult book club will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the Cabool and Summersville branches. The Licking branch will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21. If you are interested in being a part of any of the branch’s book clubs, contact Louise at 417-967-2258.

Thanks to a kind donation, we have added a puzzle activity for all ages. Come relax and unwind with our community jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle board is set up and ready for your contribution. Work on it as long or little as you like.

One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-976-2258.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
