The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • On March 4, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of an abandoned vehicle at the Hartshorn convenience store on Highway KK.

The officer made contact with a 46-year-old man there who said the black 2017 Jeep Cherokee had been there for about three or four months. He said the person who had parked it there was advised that it would have to be moved within a month or it would be removed, but they never returned to retrieve it.

The vehicle was towed to a lot in Houston.

  • On Feb. 21, a deputy was dispatched to a Highway DD property in Solo regarding a report of a burned hay bale.

The officer examined the area and determined the fire had originated next to the roadway and moved into the adjacent field, igniting the bale.

There are no suspects.

  • On Feb. 26, a deputy responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle at a Route 17 residence in Summersville.

The officer made contact with a man there who said he didn’t know who owned the car – a gray Pontiac G6 – or how long it had been there.

The deputy found a Stevens .410 rifle in the back seat, and it was entered as evidence. The car was towed to a lot in Mountain View.

  • On March 5, a 42-year-old Plato woman reported that the catalytic converter had been stolen from her 1998 Dodge Ram pickup while it was parked at her Route 32 residence.

There are no suspects.

  • On March 2, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of a burglary at a Route 137 residence at Willow Springs.

The officer made contact with a 45-year-old man who lives there by phone, and he said he was in a nursing home after having a stroke. The man told the deputy his son had advised him of the situation.

The deputy spoke to the son, who said he had found the back door to the house open and a toolbox full of tools valued at $2,000 and a TV worth $200 had been stolen. He also said a drawer that contained his father’s paperwork was empty, and it was as if someone knew where things were that they wanted to take.

The officer advised the man to have his son set up surveillance cameras.
