The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • On March 18, a deputy was dispatched to a domestic disturbance at a Route 32 residence at Roby.

The officer made contact with a 67-year-old man there who said he had been involved in an altercation with his 47-year-old former girlfriend. The man told the deputy the woman had come to his house to start an argument and had shoved him several times and used a rock to break the windshield and dent the hood of his car.

The officer observed the broken windshield and dents in the hood of the vehicle.

The man also said the woman had used a rock to destroy a mirror mounted on the wall of the residence. The officer observed a broken mirror and a rock on the floor below it.

On March 19, the woman contacted the officer by phone and allegedly admitted to causing damage to the man’s car and breaking the mirror.

On March 20, the man contacted the deputy and said he no longer wished to pursue charges, and that she had agreed to pay for damages.

  • On March 20, a deputy was dispatched to an Airport Road residence at Cabool regarding a report of a suspicious man and a suspicious vehicle.

A 69-year-old man who lives there reported that he had come home and observed a maroon GMC pickup that didn’t belong to him sitting in his driveway.

On the way, the officer was advised that a 70-year-old man had reported his maroon GMC pickup had been stolen from his Russell Drive residence at Cabool.

Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with two men; one was the resident and another was a man who would only provide his last name.

The officer asked the man what he was doing, and he said he was tired from walking. When the deputy asked about the truck, the man replied that he had “found it.”

The truck’s license plate matched that of the reportedly stolen truck.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Cabool man, was arrested and taken to jail, and the truck was returned to its owner.

  • On March 26, a 43-year-old Eunice woman reported identify theft.

The woman told an officer she had received notice from a debt collector attempting to collect a debt of $13,228.75. The woman said she had no knowledge of the debt and that she had discovered fraudulent activity on her credit history through Experian and Equifax credit reporting.

The woman was provided an identity theft packet to complete and send to the state attorney general’s office.

  • On March 22, a 56-year-old man reported theft at his Hawkeye Road property at Houston.

The man told a deputy that about 56 T-posts and three spools of barbed wire had been swiped. He named a 24-year-old man as a suspect, who he said had just built a new fence at his own property on Samoa Road.

The suspect later contacted the sheriff’s office and at first denied the theft, but then later admitted to it. The deputy went to his property and assisted in removing the wire and posts.

The suspect was then arrested and taken to the Texas County Jail. He was reportedly already on probation for stealing.
