An inmate at the South Central Correctional Center at Licking is charged with possession of a weapon, authorities said.

Erran L. Taylor, born in 2002, was charged March 12 following a Nov. 18 incident where he was allegedly observed with some type of weapon near the south field of the yard at the Route 32 prison.

He was ordered to allow a search of his clothing, according to a report. The item dropped to the ground before Taylor picked it up and walked away from an officer before eventually running, according to the report.

The prison-made weapon — about 5 inches in length with flat metal sharpened to a point with sharpened edges and a cloth handle — was recovered from an area Taylor had been in while fleeing.
