Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association is in the process of returning $2 million to its members.
The refund is based on members’ usage from Jan. 1, 2025, to Nov. 30, 2025. The excess margins generated last year — especially during extreme cold in January and February — resulted in the money for customers.
Here is how it works:
- If the discount is less than $10, it will deducted from the March bill.
- For those greater than $10, members received an e-mail from intercountyelectric@myredemptioncenter.com. Persons have the option to immediately download a digital card that can also be stored in a digital wallet or choose to have a physical gift card mailed. (Check your spam folder if you don’t see it).
- If you don’t have an email address, a letter arrived in the mail with instructions.
- The gift card can be used for any purpose.
“Once you claim your gift card, you can use Intercounty’s normal payment options to pay on your bill. Stop by one of our offices, call our Pay-by-Phone line (855-940-3890), use SmartHub, or the Pay Now button on our website (www.ieca.coop),” it said in a statement.

Not a fan of the gift card option or the digital wallet, but hey I’m in my late 60’s so maybe our local younger generation will like these two options. On a more serious note IECA please consider putting a STOP to raising your availability fee. It continues to rise and a dollar per day fee should meet or exceed your operating costs! If not, perhaps its a management issue of being good stewards of our members dollars. Just something to think about as we can try to reduce our electric costs but we cannot do anything about your availability fee!
