The National Weather Service said there is an elevated fire danger today [Tuesday, March 31] as gusty southerly winds up to 30 to 40 miles per hour will combine with dry air.

The warning comes one day after several departments mobilized to contain a grass fire east of Houston. Two roads — Meadowbrook Road and Brushy Creek Road — were limited to vehicle traffic during the afternoon. Volunteers were on scene for hours.

The National Weather Service said its warning means that weather and land conditions are favorable for erratic fire spread. It cautions to avoid activities that cause open flames or sparks.
