The inaugural archery season at Raymondville Schools was a huge success.
Four of the Eagles’ eight team members qualified for this week’s state tournament, highlighted by a runner-up finish by Kimber Mosley in the program’s first-ever competition. Mosley, an eighth grader, will be joined at state by Liam Derrick (fifth grade), Adilyn Birdine (sixth grade) and Devin Birdine (eighth grade).
The team was launched and coached by Raymondville teacher Jennifer Scott with support from Physical Education instructor Jennifer Smith. Other team members included Grayson Derrick (eighth grade), Abbie Buckner (7th grade), Allie Buckner (6th grade) and Dakota Clark (5th grade).
“We were pround to launch Raymondville’s first-ever Archery Club,” Scott said. “Kimber’s second-place medal among all middle school competitors was an outstanding achievement for both her and the program’s inaugural season.”
State competition begins Wednesday in Branson. Devin and Adilyn Birdine compete at 5 p.m. Mosley and Derrick have their turn at 3 p.m. Saturday.
