  • On March 20, a deputy responded to a report of a verbal disturbance at a Freedom Road residence at Willow Springs.

The officer spoke with a 41-year-old woman who lives there and a 75-year-old man who owns the house. The officer also talked to a 17-year-old girl there who said the woman had been smoking a white powdery substance in her presence.

During the process, a Houston Police Department K-9 officer and dog were called in, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the passenger’s side floorboard of the woman’s vehicle.

A search of the vehicle then revealed a glass jar containing methamphetamine and some items of paraphernalia.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Texas County Jail.

  • On Feb. 18, a deputy patrolling Highway B in the Raymondville area observed a black motorcycle with no registration traveling eastbound.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, a 41-year-old Raymondville man who the deputy knew possessed driving while revoked status.

A towing company removed the bike from the scene, and the man was arrested and taken to jail. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.

  • On March 13, a deputy was dispatched to the Cabool Police Department regarding a report of fraud.

The officer made contact with a 35-year-old woman there who said she had just returned from Springfield where a loved one was being detained in the Greene County Jail.

The woman told the deputy she had received a phone call informing her that her loved one could be released with an ankle monitor in her custody until their court hearing. The woman said they claimed to be a Greene County Jail clerk, and said the woman would be refunded for the ankle monitor fee after the court procedure.

The caller reportedly instructed the woman to set up an account using bar codes and Walmart services.

After completing transactions, the woman went back to the Greene County Jail to pick up her loved one, and she called her attorney to inform him of the situation, but the attorney told her she had been involved in a known scam the Greene County Jail had been regularly dealing with, and her loved one had no bond.

The total amount the woman lost was $1,962. There are no suspects.
