This week we will be turning over the keys to the new owners of the old library building, almost to the day that I will celebrate my four-year anniversary.
It was a great building to start my library career. I look forward to many more years in our brand new library and it is an honor to serve this community with such a necessary service.
Also at this time of year, the library remembers Evelyn Marie Dieckhaus as our children’s area was created in memory of this sweet young girl. The creative center reminds us not only at this time of year but every day that we are blessed to have this space for children to come and explore in the library. Our thoughts and thanks are with her family for enhancing the library with Evelyn’s memory!
The Easter Bunny is coming to the Houston Library on Saturday, March 28. Bring your kiddos in for a photo op and some candy. We have plenty of Easter books to check out as well!
Book clubs are not only a great way to hear about books you may want to read, but also a terrific place to meet new people. All four Texas County Library branches have book clubs and the dates and times are listed on our website.
The Cabool Book Club is meeting for the first time at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28 at the Cabool Library. Come join in with other lovers of reading! If you are interested in being a part of any of our branches’ book clubs, contact Louise at 417-967-2258.
One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-967-2258.
Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
The Summer Reading program theme for 2026 is DINOSAURS. Children enrolled will dig up stories and have fun presentations and activities from this long ago time in history. More information to unfold as we get closer!
Two of our wonderful employees will be swapping locations: Brandie Smith from Licking branch will be go to Houston and Samuel Antle from Houston branch will go to Licking. This change starts the week of March 23. Be sure to say “hi” and introduce yourself if you do not know them already.
