CASA of South Central Missouri invites community members to attend a proclamation ceremony at noon Thursday, April 9, at the Texas County Justice Center, where local leaders will officially recognize April as “Child Abuse Awareness Month” in Texas County.
“This annual observance serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to protect children and strengthen families,” said Jenn Thomas, CASA of South Central Missouri director of operations. “In Texas County, 79 children were in foster care during the last quarter, highlighting the need for advocacy, stability and community support.”
CASA of South Central Missouri works to ensure children in foster care have someone consistently looking out for their best interests. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are trained community members who advocate for children in court, helping them navigate the system and move toward safe, permanent homes.
“Awareness is just the first step,” said Amber Stienbarger, executive director of CASA of South Central Missouri. “It takes people showing up, getting involved and standing behind these kids to truly make a difference. This is about making sure they know they’re not alone.”
Immediately following the ceremony, attendees are invited to participate in an Hour of Service at Fostering by Faith, 122 W. Walnut St., Houston. Volunteers will assist with projects that directly benefit local children and families involved in the foster care system.
CASA of South Central Missouri continues to serve children by recruiting, training and supporting volunteers who advocate for their safety and well-being. Events like the proclamation and service opportunity are a way for the community to come together, raise awareness and take meaningful action. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue in support of children and families impacted by abuse and neglect.
