The Houston High School band earned an accomplishment last week that hasn’t been achieved by the program in more than a decade.
HHS received an Exemplary Rating (gold) for the pieces it performed at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Large Ensemble Festival on Friday in West Plains. The band also received an “outstanding” in sight reading.
Houston last earned a gold rating in 2014.
“These awards are prestigious musical awards and difficult to receive,” said first-year Houston band director Rebecca Peterson. “It reflects team work and great effort. I am excited to work with talented young musicians. The support we have for one another is awesome. We had a great day.”
Peterson said the band will play two of the pieces it performed at the competition during its May 2 “Dinner and a Show” event.
