An offensive outburst led the Houston softball team to its third straight victory.
The Lady Tigers had 16 extra-base hits – highlighted by senior Ashley Gilbert’s third home run of the season – and 23 total as they cruised past Dixon 24-7 Tuesday on the road.
Houston (9-5) has won three straight games leading into Friday’s SCA showdown at Thayer. The pair are the lone remaining unbeaten conference teams.
Gilbert goes deep
Gilbert smashed a line-drive 2-run homer over the center-field fence in the Lady Tigers’ 10-run fourth inning. HHS also had two inside-the-park homers from Katy Evans and Claire Benoist. Gilbert finished 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Doubles galore by HHS
Houston had nine doubles – led by two apiece from Claire Benoist (above), Lilly Kincaid and freshman Cameron Jones – as well as four triples and the three-run homer. The team’s 23 hits and 24 runs were season highs.
Entire lineup produces
Nine different players scored at least 2 runs, including three apiece from Gracyn McNiell (above), Evans, Gilbert and Benoist. Houston also stole 8 bases.
Big day for freshmen
Two HHS freshmen had big offensive days. Ember Green (above) went 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 runs batted in. Jones came off the bench and doubled in both her at-bats and scored twice.
