The top-seeded Houston softball team faces No. 3 Bourbon in the Class 2 District 3 championship game at 4 p.m Wednesday at the Trojan Sports Complex in Potosi.

B6 – CHAMPS

Evans leads off inning with double and scored on wild pitch. Ball game. HHS 11-1

T6 – Kincaid rolls

Senior gets another 1-2-3 inning. Now through 6 innings, Kincaid has given up 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. HHS 10-1

B5 – Game continues

Clinton doubles with one out but stranded after a pair of groundouts. Game continues. HHS 10-1

T5 – Jam escaped

Single and error put two runners on with one out. HHS gets forceout and popout to escape jam. HHS 10-1

B4 – No runs

Koch singles with one out but later caught stealing. Lady Tigers one run from victory. HHS 10-1

T4 – Still cruising

Groundout, strikeout and groundout for another 1-2-3 inning for Kincaid. HHS 10-1

B3 – Two out rally

Bottom of the lineup – Warner and Clinton – deliver RBI hits with two outs. Lady Tigers add runs on error, wild pitch and steal of home. HHS 10-1

T3 – Kincaid cruising

Kincaid gets infield fly, strikeout and comebacker for 1-2-3 inning. Senior has allowed 3 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. HHS 5-1

B2 – Scoreless frame

McNiell and Evans walk but are left stranded in scoreless inning for both teams. HHS 5-1

T2 – Double play for 1-2-3

McNiell catches fly at backstop and throws to second to double off runner to end inning. Kincaid records another strikeout in inning. HHS 5-1

B1 – Houston answers

McNiell leadoff single followed by consecutive doubles from Kincaid and Evans put Houston ahead 2-1. Gilbert single makes it 4 straight hits. Benoist reaches on error and Koch follows with sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. Benoist later scores on obstruction at third. HHS 5-1

T1 – Bourbon strikes first

Bourbon gets leadoff single, walk and one-out single for game’s first run. Kincaid ends threat with consecutive strikeouts. Bourbon 1-0

Staying loose as we await first pitch

The team is loose and confident as it plays for the program’s fifth district championship. Houston won the regular season meeting with Bourbon 22-7. Awaiting National Anthem here in Potosi.

Lady Tigers championship history

Houston softball has won 4 district championships in program history: 2012, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Brent Hall coached the first title team. Jim Moore led the back-to-back-to-back championships. This year’s team is under the direction of first-year coach Conaley Aaron.
