Collecting a whopping nine individual championships, the Houston High School girls track and field team added to its highly successful season by winning the 2026 South Central Association conference team championship.
The Lady Tigers scored 184 points in the SCA Championships meet Monday (May 4) at Mountain Grove, while Mountain Grove placed second with 176 and Salem finished third with 136.

Houston athletes winning individual SCA titles included junior Adyson Dailing in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the 300-meter hurdles, freshman Lyla Huffman in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs, senior Kayla Wagner in the 400-meter dash, junior Hally Scheets in high jump and senior Kynlee Weaver in discus. Scheets recorded a school record leap of 5-1, while Dailing lowered her own 300 hurdles mark again and tied the school record in the 200.
“For the first time in my life I really don’t have a lot to say,” said HHS head coach Mike Tottingham. “We had a game plan that required our girls to have a team-first approach and not have egos. They performed almost flawlessly, and I couldn’t be more proud to be their coach.”

The SCA title is the first-ever for the HHS girls program and avenged last year’s results when Mountain Grove won and Houston was second.
The Lady Tigers’ roster includes only 12 athletes. Each one contributed to the team’s points total in the SCA meet.
“Every single girl played a role in the win and it was awesome to celebrate the victory with them!” Tottingham said.
The HHS boys scored 74 points and placed sixth at the meet, while Mountain Grove won with 147 and Ava was second with 125.
The Tigers picked up a first-place performance in the 4X800 relay, with the foursome consisting of Jack Sawyer, Christopher Meier II, Kane Crawford and Dillon Shelton.

“I am also impressed with our boys,” Tottingham said. “They have come a long way this season and we return most of the team. With the additions that we have coming from middle school, we should see a much more competitive team in the near future.”
