Two eighth-grade athletes with the Houston Middle School track and field program combined to earn five individual state championships at the 2026 Missouri Middle School Track and Field Championships meet Saturday, May 2, at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.

Myles Copley won the overall and division titles in the girls 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and 1,600-meter run, and Oliver Choate won the overall and division crowns in the 800 and 1,600.

HMS eighth-grader Charlie Benoist placed 6th overall and third in the division in the boys 1,600 and finished 8th in the division in the 800.

Houston’s boys took second overall in the 4X400 (with the foursome including Liam Stickel, Charlie Benoist, Aaron Norris and Oliver Choate).

Copley and Choate each won state championships in cross country last fall.
