A Houston man is charged with the assault of a woman with dementia, authorities said.

Nicholas M. Jones, 34, a resident of Highway B, is charged with third-degree assault of a special victim, a class D felony. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

A Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputy interviewed a victim on May 13, who said Jones became upset, kicked a trash can and argued with her. She alleged he approached her, grabbed her ears and head-butted her. The deputy said he observed a large knot on the left side of the victim’s head above her eyebrow and temple. She declined medical treatment.

Jones said the victim fell on the porch, hit her head on a log and accused him of hitting her. He denied assaulting her and said he tried to catch her as she fell.
