HHS (11-7) plays Friday at Licking as the season winds down to next Thursday’s district tournament. The Lady Tigers are the top seed.

Big punch from senior catcher

McNiell, who had one inside-the-park homer and 9 RBIs from her leadoff spot coming into the game, lined a 3-run homer over the center field fence in the fourth inning and hit a towering solo drive to left leading off the seventh. She also had a RBI double in the second and run-scoring single in the fifth to raise her average to a team-leading .519. Her 4 hits, 6 RBIs and 11 total bases were all career highs.

Offense rolls as defense struggles

The Lady Tigers overcame five errors with big offensive production. HHS had 15 hits and scored 13 runs in the final four innings. Eight different players had hits, including 3 apiece by Katy Evans and Ava Koch, who along with Jenna Warner (pictured) knocked in two runs each.

Milestone for Evans

Evans, the program’s all-time home run leader, reached a career milestone in the top of the first when she singled through the right side of the infield for her 100th career hit. She has 25 hits this season – 14 for extra bases – while batting .455.

Winners of 5 of last 7

Thursday’s win was the fifth in the last seven games for the Lady Tigers. Following Friday’s game at Licking, HHS has three regular-season games remaining: Monday at Bourbon then home Tuesday and Wednesday in SCA makeup games against Willow Springs and Liberty. Senior Night follows Tuesday’s game.
