All Texas County libraries will celebrate Memorial Day and be closed on Monday, May 25.

“Who” is coming to Texas County Library? Answer: Mark H.X. Glenshaw is an award-winning naturalist who has closely observed and documented the lives of Great Horned Owls in Forest Park, a large urban park in St. Louis, Missouri, since December 2005.

Mark’s engaging and entertaining talk will cover how he found these owls, basic facts about the species and he uses many of his photos and videos to illustrate the amazing behaviors of these beautiful birds. Join us for Mark’s “Forest Park Owls: Hiding in Plain Sight” presentation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at our Houston branch down in the storm shelter.

Summer Reading is approaching fast. For the first time this year, we will offer an adult Summer Reading challenge. The reading theme this year is DINOSAURS “Unearth a Story.” We will throw in some America’s 250th anniversary themes as well. Registration for both kids and adults will start the week of May 23. We are currently taking monetary donations to help with costs associated with the program. Any help is always appreciated.

Book clubs are not only a great way to hear about books you may want to read, but also a terrific place to meet new people. All four Texas County Library branches have book clubs and the dates and times are listed on our website. Come join in with other lovers of reading! If you are interested in being a part of any of our branches book clubs, contact Louise at 417-967-2258 or visit our Texas County library website.

One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-967-2258.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friend of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
