Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe

Texas County residents are encouraged to lobby Gov. Mike Kehoe to sign a bill that contains funds to improve Shafer Road at Licking after it crumbled due to a lack of maintenance.

There is $3 million included in a state appropriations bill to help pay for the work. A committee at Licking has worked to seek progress on the road.

The roadway — situated northwest of Licking — is a key access point to the Missouri Department of Conservation’s George O. White State Nursery that provides stock throughout Missouri.

The budget must be finalized by June 30.
