Emily Nelson

Emily Ann Herin Nelson, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Oct. 27, 1937, in Chicago, Ill, daughter of Henry and Ruth Herin. She and Doyle D. Nelson were married June 11, 1955.

She attended Shipp School before transferring to Licking, where she completed high school.

She was baptized at a young age and was an active member of the Licking United Methodist Church. She was involved in numerous ministries of the church, including teaching Sunday school, the church choir, the women’s guild and assisting with Vacation Bible School.

She loved her family and sports. She and her husband attended many sports events of their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Doyle; her parents; and her stepmother, Etta.

Survivors include three children, Brian of Licking, Brenda of Ozark and Brad of Platte City; seven grandchildren; three special nieces; a stepbrother, Lloyd Craig of Belleville, Ill.; and two stepsisters, Ruby Craig of Denver, Colo., and Barbara Robinson of Maryland Heights.

Services were Sunday, Sept. 30, at United Methodist Church in Licking with Pastor Robb Webster officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
