Charles Pennington, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, in Houston.

He was born July 21, 1929, in Johnsonville, Ill., son of John and Fannie Lowe Pennington. He and Frances Howard were married Dec. 29, 1969, in Hill City, Kan.

He grew up in the Johnsonville, Ill., area. He left home at an early age and joined the Army. He served during Vietnam and retired in 1969 as a MP with the rank of staff sergeant.

He and his wife moved to Arizona and worked on a ranch there. They later moved back to Missouri, where he had a farm in the Evening Shade area. After selling the farm, he moved to the Cabool area.

He enjoyed horseback riding, farming and working with cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Buford; a sister, Ruth; a half-brother, Dale; and a half-sister, Daisy.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; two daughters, Karen Beck and Linda; and two sons, Michael and Ralph.

Graveside services with military honors were Monday, Oct. 29, in Palace Cemetery with Pastor Philip McGuire officiating. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
