Richard Leon Bodenhamer, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Indian Creek Nursing Center in Overland Park, Kan.
He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Kansas City, son of Harry Eual and Bessie Adelaide Fleshman Bodenhamer.
He lived most of his life in Kansas City. He worked for Hostess, Taystee and Wonder bread for more than 20 years. Later, he became a security guard and armed guard for picking up money at various convenient stores.
He served in the Marines and Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He earned the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George Bodenhamer, Robert Bodenhamer, James Bodenhamer and Harry E. Bodenhamer; a sister, Virginia; and a son, John R. Selleck.
Survivors include a sister, Ann Lukens; and four children, Michael A. Bodenhamer, Carol A. Chapman, Rick Bodenhamer and Karen Gavrilys.
Graveside services with full military honors were Monday, Sept. 24, in Boone Creek Cemetery with Pastor David Barbee officiating. Services are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
