Drury University announced plans this week to begin offering classes in Houston.
Aaron Jones, interim dean of the College of Continuing Professional Studies, said the Springfield-based university is working to bring classes to the Texas County seat. “Drury University is excited about the opportunity to offer course work in Houston,” said Jones. “We will be working with community leaders in the coming weeks to develop a timeline and to address specifics. Drury wants to make this a thoughtful process so that we offer the classes the community needs, ensure the quality that Drury is know for and to comply with the higher education accreditation processes.”
Drury notified the City of Houston of its intentions to begin classes locally in a letter to Mayor Don Tottingham and members of the Houston City Council. The decision also was expected to be discussed this week during a meeting of the Houston board of education.
Established in 1873, Drury began offering adult evening classes in 1948 and in the 1950s, it started classes at Fort Leonard Wood. It already has classes at Cabool and Licking. Other branch campuses are at Thayer, Rolla, Fort Leonard Wood/St. Robert, Ava, Lebanon and Monett.
Drury College’s College of Continuing Professional Studies has more than 3,100 students taking more than 31,000 credit hours.
