James Clifton Bolding, 72, died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at his home near Bucyrus.
He was born in Amarillo, Texas.
He was a fifth generation Texan and descendant of pioneers in Carson and Williamson counties. He graduated in 1958 from high school in Dallas. He earned a degree in chemical engineering from Rice Institute in 1963.
He joined Monsanto Chemical, first as a chemical engineer and later, upon completion of his J.D. at South Texas College of Law, as a patent attorney. While representing Monsanto, his expertise in licensing took him to Taiwan, Japan, China, Russia and eastern European countries.
He enjoyed tinkering with crystal sets and early transistors. He worked for a small custom manufacturing firm during high school. He enjoyed traveling, especially Texas and Mexican by train. In later years, he enjoyed vacation cruises to Scandinavia, South America and the Caribbean.
After his retirement in 1995, he relocated to Texas County, where he had a small cattle operation. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Katherine Bolding of Houston, Texas; a son, Frank Bolding of Austin, Texas; a sister, Muriel Lem of McMahan, Texas; and a brother, Richard Bolding of Georgetown, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
