Firefighters from three area departments responded at about 2 p.m. Friday to a fire at the City of Houston wastewater treatment plant.
The fire broke out in the old trickle filter building at the facility, which was in the process of being torn down at the time.
As changing winds blew thick black smoke in different directions, firefighters from the City of Houston, Houston Rural and Raymondville volunteer fire departments donned protective gear as they battled the blaze.
The Houston city department deployed a water cannon on its ladder truck, and the gun showered water on the blaze from high atop the extended ladder.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
