Abby Casper scored 11 points and Alexis Dixon added 10 in the Houston seventh grade girls’ 44-12 rout Tuesday of Ava.
Houston led 17-4 after the opening quarter and had a 24-7 advantage at the half. The Lady Tigers outscored Ava in every quarter.
“These kids are really starting to click,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “The team’s ability to get up and down the floor and get to the basket is our biggest strength.”
EIGHTH GRADE: Chloe Morning scored a team-best 16 points and Walker had 14 in a 41-35 victory against Ava.
Houston raced out to a 25-12 halftime advantage and held on down the stretch.
“Give the kids credit,” Jordan said. “They played short-handed this week and have really stepped up.”
Jordan said things got a little too tight down the stretch. Ava outscored Houston 23-16 in the second half, including a 13-8 edge in the fourth quarter.
“This was a good win for our kids,” Jordan said. “We have to learn to play smarter with the lead.”
