Two Texas County communities were among winners Monday night in the Missouri Community Betterment contest.

Cabool took first in its population category and Houston won fourth place. Cabool’s youth also won first place. Houston’s took second.

Nineteen students and six adults from Houston attended the event, which was held in Jefferson City. About 325 volunteers, community leaders and youth from across the state attended. Clinton won the top award.

“Because of these dedicated individuals and organizations, Missouri communities will continue to be a place where our children can, and want, to come back to live,” said MCB President Kathleen Bruegenhemke.

Houston’s Delbert and Elaine Campbell and Bill and Pat Marble were in charge of Sunday evening’s “Magical Trivia” that saw more than 150 students and adults participate. Ten teams registered and others competed.

Students and adults attended workshops, and Houston’s group toured the Missouri State Penitentiary Museum, which included everything behind the walls, including tombs and the gas chamber.
