Scott Wilbanks, who was named HHS assistant principal Monday night.

A Cassville science teacher and coach was hired Monday as Houston High School assistant principal.

Members of the board of education made the hiring decision. Brian Wilbanks will replace Scott Roberts, who is leaving for a post at Salem.

Wilbanks was the head soccer coach at Cassville. He led the Wildcats to a combined 63-28 record, including a fourth-place state finish in 2007.

The meeting was a reorganization for the board following last week’s elections for some.

Since there were three candidates for three positions, an election was not held. Incumbents Dr. Tom Dunn and Jo Holland were sworn with new board member Sam Kelley. Dunn was elected board president for the year, Sharon Horbyk was chosen as vice president and Kathy Hutcheson will serve another year as treasurer.

In new business, Horbyk was selected as the board representative to the Missouri School Boards Association annual conference. Jo Holland was chosen as the alternate.

A decision on health insurance plans for the upcoming year was tabled in anticipation of changes in the rates quoted.

As long as state funding for summer school stays in place, and it appears it will, the district will hold it. Planning is under way, Dr. Dan Vandiver said.
