Ava cruises past Lady Tigers

Ava scored five times in the third inning Thursday and cruised past the Lady Tigers softball team 9-2.

Kayla Kelley tripled and knocked in a run for Houston (9-8, 2-2 SCA). Taylor Franklin, Maddie Vandiver and Belle Knarr had one hit apiece.

Ava had 11 hits against Carmen Floyd, who gave up seven earned runs in the loss. She struck out seven and walked three.

Trailing 2-0, the Lady Tigers got a single run in the first on Floyd’s groundout that scored Franklin, who led off with a double.

Ava scored seven unanswered runs, highlighted by the five-run third inning. The first five batters of the inning reached base and scored before Houston recorded an out.

Franklin reached on an error in the sixth and scored on Kelley’s groundout for the Lady Tigers’ other run.
