As required by Missouri election laws, Texas County voters will soon receive a new voter registration card in the mail.
The County Clerk’s office said it will be mailing more than 15,000 cards within the next week. Voters are asked to verify their name and address. If correct, persons should detach the top sub, sign the card, fold as indicated and bring it to upcoming elections. Voters should destroy any old voter registration cards.
If any information is incorrect, persons should fill out the form on the card and mail it to the county clerk’s office.
If a voter do not receive an official voter identification card and believes they are a registered voter of Texas County, they should contact the county clerk’s office for more information. The clerk’s office has the ability to search all voter records in the state.
Funding for the cards and postage for mailing the cards comes from a grant the county received from the office of Robin Carnahan, Missouri’s Secretary of State.
The last day to register to vote in the upcoming August primary election is 5 p.m. July 7. Voters will nominate candidates for federal, state and county offices for each of the four political parties. Voters must declare party preference — Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or Constitution — on Election Day. Voters in the state of Missouri do not register by political party.
The last day to register to vote in the November General Election is 5 p.m. October 6. Voters will elect candidates for federal, state and county offices. A political party preference is not required.
The county clerk’s office said voting can be made easy for disabled voters and their caregivers. Once the voter is on a listing for disabled voters, the county clerk’s office will mail them an absentee voter request. If they want to vote in the upcoming election, the voter signs the request and returns it to the clerk’s office for processing. The clerk’s office will mail a ballot to the voter and after voting, the voter returns it to the clerk’s office. The voter’s signature does not need to be notarized as other voters that are merely absent from the county on Election Day.
Questions about voter registration, absentee voting or any issues related to the election process should be directed to the county clerk’s office at 417-967-2112.
